Waste Hierarchy
The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 led to the “Duty of Care” Legislation of April 1992.
This meant that Waste Producers had to be more diligent in their handling and disposal of waste.
Since September 2011, the waste regulations require producers of waste to dispose of it in line with the ‘waste hierarchy’. The Environment Agency state that the hierarchy ‘gives priority to preparing it for re-use, then recycling, then other recovery such as energy recovery and, last of all, disposal (for example landfill).’
Hospital departments are responsible for ensuring that they comply with these regulations but by working with Genta Medical, this is a simple and worry-free process.
